comes to New Dawn with over seventeen years of professional experience as an eating disorders specialist. She is skilled in food, weight, body image, and compulsive exercise issues in both treatment program and private practice settings. Victoria feels that her own history of an eating disorder and the journey of her personal recovery opened the path to her life's work. She integrates her expertise with alcohol/drug addictions, mood disorders and general psychotherapy issues with her eating disorders specialty because clients often struggle with chemical dependency while in treatment.Victoria Green, MFT Clinical Director
Victoria
Victoria began her career in eating disorders as a nutritional consultant at Ohlhoff Intensive Outpatient Eating Disorders Program in San Francisco, CA. After receiving her license in marriage and family therapy, she took on further responsibilities by becoming clinical supervisor and the director at Ohlhoff. In 2007 she joined Alta Mira Residential Dual Diagnosis Program as director of the eating disorders track. She worked with residents in the chemical dependency program and developed specialized treatment for those struggling with food, weight, exercise, and body image issues during addiction recovery. She also provided clinical supervision for new therapists while at Alta Mira.
Victoria received her certificate as a nutritional consultant and fitness specialist from North American College in San Rafael, CA. She earned her master of arts in psychology from New College, in San Francisco and in 1995 became licensed as a marriage and family therapist. She is excited to be a part of New Dawn and is honored to work with our highly skilled, committed and caring staff.
Marybeth Weinstock, PhD Psychology Assistant #PSB 36678 Primary Therapist
Dr. Marybeth Weinstock has a doctorate in clinical psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, a master's degree in dance/movement therapy (DMT) from Hunter College in New York, and an undergraduate degree in dance and psychology from Goucher College in Baltimore. Dr. Weinstock combines the disciplines of clinical psychology and DMT in her therapy. She has worked in psychiatric hospitals, schools, mental health agencies, and in private practice with a broad span of patients, and has specialized in both eating disorders and issues of age.
She has most recently been on the staff at Alta Bates Summit Psychiatric Hospital in Berkeley, where for 11 years she provided therapy for patients with eating disorders in both individual and group settings, and helped develop a workbook. Dr. Weinstock's life in the dance world has given her a personal perspective on both the travails of eating disorders and the joys of recovery. Her dissertation, "Women Dancers in Midlife: Coping with the Transition," advanced her scholarship in and treatment of body image issues, and inspired a series of ongoing workshops.
Dr. Weinstock's theoretical orientation includes psychodynamic, Jungian, feminist, cognitive behavioral, and existential approaches. She is the current president of the California Chapter of the American Dance Therapy Association. She studies dance with her mentor Anna Halprin, who certified her to teach Movement Ritual.
Tamar Frysh, MFT Primary Therapist
Tamar is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and has been treating clients struggling with all forms of addiction for over ten years. Tamar received her MA in integral counseling psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, specializing in transpersonal psychology, which helps the client move past the egoic structure to an expanded consciousness.
She went on to do an extended practicum and internship at Church St Counseling Center, which provided her with a foundation in Gestalt psychology. Tamar then completed a year-long somatic trauma training with Staci Haines, founder of Generation Five, committed to stopping sexual abuse within five generations. This training, along with her passion as a certified yoga instructor infuses her work with a somatic focus which she combines with Existential therapy, Depth psychology and mindfulness approaches.
Kate Boston, RD Registered Dietitian
Kate is certified with the American Dietetic Association as a registered dietician. She completed her BS at West Chester University and went on to work at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Through client care, Kate has experience working with eating disorders, diabetes, renal disease, and heart disease to name a few. At New Dawn Recovery, she works one-on-one with each client to design an individualized meal plan incorporating balance, health, and pleasure. Through nutrition therapy, Kate helps clients work through dietary challenges to build a positive relationship with food leading to greater freedom and choice.
Jennifer Melnick, BA Chef
Jennifer's passion for creating healthy, gourmet dishes began in high school while working at her mother's catering company in New York City. Her desire to change the eating habits of children and young adults came to life when she had the opportunity to cook healthy school lunches at several Bay Area schools. Jennifer has incorporated her philosophy on healthy, diverse meals into her cooking at New Dawn, and has refined her cooking techniques by using several different styles with a focus on local, seasonal food. Creating meals that are balanced and healing for clients in all levels of treatment is a priority to Jennifer and the dietitians she closely works with. Jennifer earned her dual Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Art from Clark University. She earned her Culinary Degree from The California Culinary Academy where she graduated with honors and earned Certification in Nutrition.
